Welcome to Taking Control - Day 1

We have prepared this course to help adults across the life spectrum gain victory over addiction to tobacco products from cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, vaping and any nicotine-laden product.

And to bring about success for those individuals, to equip neighborhood groups, churches, and other non-profit organizations for conducting mentoring and support activities such as tobacco cessation workshops and phone coaching.  Altogether, this is a Case-Managed Approach to Tobacco Cessation Help=CMATCH.

Taking Control's Success Plan

Your investment and commitment of time has brought you to the classroom.

  • Make yourself comfortable
  • Turn off the distractions
  • Get a pencil or pen
  • Pour yourself a glass of water or fresh juice
  • Plan to spend about 45 minutes each day in  each session
  • Focus on taking control of your life


First of all you will need the downloadable, printable Workbook on the Taking Control gateway page of this site.  (Please note that the page numbering is off by one page, due to the numbering of the cover page as Page 1)

 This is a day dedicated to helping you make the life-saving decision to breathe freely and/or experience a stress-free life without tobacco's toxins and drugs. The day to contemplate on what it will mean to you, to your loved ones, when you turn your back on tobacco and walk into healthy ways of living. 

Today and tomorrw you will methodically and systematically prepare yourself for the Big Day--the day you begin to take control.

Reflecting on This Day

Tracking Progress

An important activity of changing your habitual behavior is marking where you are now and measuring along the way of your journey the progress you are making.  You can keep track every few months yourself by recording on the TCAT -- Tobacco Cessation Assessment Tool  in your Workbook. 

You will be asked to use the 7-character code you were given in the "Let's Begin to Quit" Workshop.  You will need it at times along this journey, so don't lose it.
